Atlanta Chapter Scholar Alum Structural Engineer at Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Laura Redmond was an ARCS Scholar at Georgia Tech during the 2013-2014 academic years. Dr. Redmond is currently a structural engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, where she specializes in nonlinear finite element analysis and dynamic modeling.  She is leading the deployment modeling effort for 2 earth-orbiting sciences satellites. She is also the analyst for the Mars 2020 mission's rock sample tubes and sealing mechanism which includes nonlinear contact, thermal stress, creep and fatigue analysis.

Her Ph.D. dissertation was a seismic analysis and design of hybrid concrete-masonry structures. While working on her dissertation, she conducted site visits to Belize, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad to interview engineers and government officials about building practices and earthquake hazards.
