January Membership Meeting and Luncheon
On January 10, 2018, our Winter Meeting and Luncheon was held at the Woodruff Arts Center. Our speaker was Dr. Wally Curran, Executive Director of the Winship Cancer Center at Emory University. As is our tradition, the ARCS Light for 2018 was announced. The membership was asked to submit nominations which were then voted on by the past ARCS Lights. Susan Higley is this year's ARCS Light. Gracia Conn, last year's ARCS Light presented the award to Susan.
Following the meeting and luncheon, Carolynn Cooper arrange for members to have a guided tour of one of the current exhibits: Al Taylor, What Are You Looking At?

"I was very fortunate to be selected as one of this year's ARCS scholars... I plan to pursue an academic career in chemistry... Your support will allow me to continue my biomedical research in developing novel strateigies to treat drug resistant cancers and cardiovascular diseases... Again, thank you so much for your support of the sciences and post graduate education, both of which are very important in keeping America competitive..."
Thanks from Alum Courtney Pollard, III, MD, PhD, MedStar Harbor Hospital, Baltimore
Let me start by saying how thankful I am for being selected as an ARCS scholar. I consider it one of my greatest achievements thus far and I am immensely proud to count myself as one of the amazing group of students that your organization selected to receive this award. I want you ladies to know you are doing an outstanding job! You all are embarked on a truly altruistic endeavor and it is my fervent prayer that this organization thrives for years to come.
Thanks from Alum Alejandro Toriella, PhD, Assistant Professor, Industrial Engineering, Georgia Tech
Thank you very much for your support. It meant a lot. I had the opportunity to return to Tech as a faculty member last year. I’m very happy to be back and hope I can advise a future ARCS scholar soon!
