2022 ARCS Light Recipient is Deede Stephenson!

Posted on Wednesday, January 5, 2022

Once again, our Atlanta ARCS Light was revealed via zoom at our General Membership meeting held on January 12th.  She is Deede Stephenson!

After joining the chapter in 2004, Deede quickly said ‘yes’ when asked to be the Scholar’s Co-Chair in 2005, then the Scholar’s Chair the next year.  She served as Vice President of University Relations in 2008-2009, followed by Special Events Chair, Newsletter Co-Publisher, Directory Chair, VP of Administration and most recently, as VP Membership!  Deede does not say ‘no’ when asked.  She lends a hand to many of the more time-consuming tasks that have helped our chapter run much more smoothly, such as the Nametag Chair and Ambassadors Chair for the Scholar Awards Celebration.

As one of our members wrote, “Deede has worked tirelessly for many, many years in numerous capacities and has always done a fabulous job. She does her work behind the scenes and with great competence. She is a true unsung heroine.”

When not working on behalf of ARCS, Deede has for years taken a leadership role for the Atlanta Symphony Showhouse as well as served as a Board member of Atlanta’s first Montessori academy, where she also taught for over 20 years.  Deede is the mom of 2 grown sons and “GIGI” to 4 adoring grandchildren.

ARCS Atlanta is truly better because of the many contributions Deede has made to our chapter! Congratulations to Deede Stephenson.

Response from Deede Stephenson upon receiving the ARCS Light Award

I want to express my delight and gratitude.  This recognition from such stellar, grounded, women on a mission is so amazing to me.  This is a group of women to be admired for their wisdom, passion for our mission, and the ability to work together and get things done—big things, things that make a difference.  I am beyond thrilled for them to turn to me with this honor.  Thank you.
