On January 14, ARCS Foundation Atlanta was pleased to welcome Dr. Lisa A. Tedesco, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of the James T. Laney School of Graduate Studies at Emory University as the Luncheon speaker for their General Membership Meeting. Dr. Tedesco began her remarks by acknowledging the importance of the $1,000,000+ that ARCS Foundation Atlanta has given to Emory scholars over the years and then discussed steps currently being taken to further strengthen and advance graduate education at Emory University. It is Emory University’s vision “to be a transformative university, contributing to innovation, development and social well-being, regionally, nationally and globally.” In support of this vision, four strategic areas for planning and programmatic development guide the Laney Graduate School. These are Academic Identity, Professionalism, Diversity and Inclusion, and Internationalization. Dr. Tedesco stressed that regardless of the achievements of the past, challenges lie ahead. The need to “make the case” for graduate education and “grow the coalition” of supporters is essential as Emory University and ARCS Foundation Atlanta continue their partnership to advance science.
