ARCS Atlanta Receives Major Gift
The Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation has approved a major grant to the ARCS Foundation Atlanta Chapter endowment. This gift will put the endowment over the critical $1 million mark. If there are no major market disruptions, the chapter will be able to take income from the endowment to support scholars in the future. The Glenn Family Foundation’s gift will give our chapter greater financial flexibility and ensure that ARCS Atlanta will be supporting young scientists for years and possibly generations to come. As our endowment grows over time with growth in our portfolio, gifts from other donors and fund-raising events like our fall auction, ARCS Atlanta will be better able to support our mission. Our endowment allows us to weather the normal changes in the market and our funding cycles.
Giving to the endowment is a great way to ensure your gift will have a lasting impact. However, member giving is critical to funding our scholars on a yearly basis. Members are our largest and most reliable source of funding. We are fortunate to have members who, without fail, support a scholar or half-scholar each year. We could not support our 53 scholars this year without such generous donors. Should you be so fortunate that you can give an extra gift, please consider the endowment. Remember us when you win the lottery or are blessed with an unexpected inheritance from a long lost relative. While these examples may be unlikely, also consider an endowment gift if you find extra money in a coat pocket or under your sofa cushions!
Every gift you make above your dues will go to our scholars, whether it is a gift to the scholar award fund or a donation to the endowment. Of course, a portion of your dues, depending on chapter expenses, also goes to supporting scholars. Our volunteers give so generously of their time. This helps keep chapter expenses to a minimum and allows us to provide greater scholar support. However, we cannot support scholars with volunteer hours only. Our scholars depend on the funds we give them not only for professional development but also for basic living expenses like rent, medical care, and food.
Our amazing group of philanthropic women is awarding just under $400,000 to 53 scholars this year. What an accomplishment! Thank you to everyone for your generosity.
