Membership Reminders from Patty Reid

Posted on Tuesday, January 19, 2021

As the new year begins, I write to not only wish you all a happy and healthy 2021 but to ask you to think of how we can continue to support ARCS.  Two areas come immediately to mind.

First, Membership Renewal. You can easily renew your membership online and pay either online or by check.  (www.atlanta.arcsfoundation.org )The deadline for membership renewal is February 15th.

Second, New Membership.  Applications are available now and are due by May 15th, which will be here before we know it!

When I was thinking about new member possibilities, I stopped to consider the question, who are our ARCS members?

While we may vary in age or science background, we share a key trait in our ongoing desire to learn. ARCS continually provides us with opportunities to advance our own understanding of the latest scientific developments, offering us information on topics ranging from brain health to ovarian cancer to the art & science of distilling to aquatic animal health (just to name a few!).

After a year in which we have learned not only the intricacies of Zoom and online bridge (anyone else?) but also have been reminded of the importance of scientific and technological advances to our collective health, I know my interest in supporting ARCS and its mission has only grown, and I imagine many of you feel the same.

The world of science – its challenges and discoveries - is both fascinating in theory and impactful in practice. Science affects how we live our lives today, and how we will live them in the future.  While I could never envision myself in a lab coat and goggles conducting experiments, I truly love learning about the advances our scientists make each day.  ARCS gives us the ability to learn about these discoveries, and more importantly, it provides a platform for us to support the talented young people who do wear those (possibly metaphorical) lab coats each day in their quest to make a difference in the fields of science, engineering, and medical research. Their discoveries may dictate our future.

Again, I wish you all a happy and healthy start to 2021, and thank you for your continued support of ARCS.
