Pracademics Amidst Pandemic, an Education Event by Zoom with Dr. Allison Chamberlain

Posted on Saturday, May 1, 2021

Since we could not yet meet in person, Kathryn Graves introduced us to Dr. Allison Chamberlain and facilitated an education event by zoom for ARCS members on March 1, 2021. We are very grateful to Kathryn and Emory University for the introduction and for managing the zoom event. A pracademic is someone who is both an academic and an active practitioner in their subject area. The word describes the role bridging the academic and the practicing professional. Pracademics combine the significant professional experience of a practitioner with the cutting-edge research of an academic.

This word perfectly describes Dr. Chamberlain who is an infectious disease epidemiologist and Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at the Emory Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH).  She is also working professionally with the Fulton County Board of Health.  Her dual role is invaluable during this pandemic.  Dr. Chamberlain directs the Emory Center for Public Health Preparedness and Research and the Emory COVID-19 Response Collaborative (ECRC). The mission of the ECRC is to put Rollins faculty, staff and students into the service of health department partners working to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Georgia.  Dr. Chamberlain told us about Emory’s work with public health professionals on vaccine strategies and virus spread.  The link to this fascinating Zoom webinar is below!
