Because it is the right thing to do…

The line between what is necessary and what is right falls in a different place for each of us.  I am constantly impressed that ARCS members so often do things that are far beyond what is necessary.  They do them because it is right.  This is one of the many things I admire about ARCS members.

Every ARCS donor wants to give our scholars the financial resources to make their lives easier as they pursue their research, and we know that the ARCS Award gives our scholars far more than financial resources.  There are giants in every field of science.  Our scholars have told us that the ARCS Award accomplishes another equally important objective.  It gives them the confidence that they, too, have the promise to be a giant in their field and the validation that their voice is important.

ARCS members and donors are part of our scholars’ community and being part of this community gives us the power to make a difference in their lives.  We are on their team, we want them to succeed, and we celebrate their successes.  Our scholars have the challenges, dreams, and aspirations of young scientists.  Their challenges, dreams, and aspirations of today are the discoveries of tomorrow.  ARCS gives us the opportunity to play a supporting role, and we do it not only because it is necessary, but because it is right.

As we look ahead to the new year, I look forward to working together to give our scholars the resources and confidence to succeed in their fields because it is the right thing to do – for them, for us, and for the world.

With my warmest wishes to all for a year when doing what is right comes easily,

Leslie
