Originally from Guatemala City, Dr. Toriello completed his undergraduate studies at Georgia Tech in 2003, obtaining a BSIE and graduating first in his major. After two years with PowerPlan Consultants, Inc., and newly married to wife, Catherine, he returned to Georgia Tech to pursue a PhD in optimization. As an ARCS Atlanta Scholar, he received the Century Fellowship Award in 2008-09, and the Siemens Award in 2009-2010. He earned several other prestigious awards, including NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, a Goizueta Foundation Fellowship and a Georgia Tech President’s Fellowship.
Reflecting back on this time in graduate school, Dr. Toriello recalls his experience as an ARCS Scholar with great warmth and appreciation. “Being a grad student comes with many challenges, and the financial support offered by ARCS was a tremendous help.” He also expressed the great benefit of attending the Scholar Awards Luncheons for networking with other ARCS scholars, as well as the donors, members, and university faculty and staff. “Overall, it was a great experience, and I really appreciate the support!”
After Dr. Toriello received his PhD in 2010, he served as an assistant professor in the Epstein Department of ISyE at the University of Southern California. When he joined ISyE at Georgia Tech, he served as the Leo and Louise Benatar Early Career Professor from 2017 to 2022.
ARCS Atlanta proudly congratulates Dr. Toriello, and we look forward to his continued achievements in the field of supply chain management, logistics, and transportation.
