A CELEBRATION OF INNOVATION AND EXCELLENCE!
ARCS Foundation’s Northern California Chapter (ARCS NCC) hosted its annual signature event, Supernova, on April 20 at the City Club of San Francisco. The gala celebrated the brilliance and innovation of this year's cohort of 74 ARCS NCC Scholars, raising the visibility of their cutting-edge research and providing them with public speaking opportunities. ARCS NCC provides over $1,000,000 annually in unrestricted merit-based awards to students pursuing advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering, math, and medical research at its seven partner universities: UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Merced, UC San Francisco, UC Santa Cruz, San Francisco State University, and Stanford University.
The evening included two fascinating TED talks by individual ARCS Scholars as well as a moderated roundtable featuring ARCS Scholar panelists discussing “AI: How Scientific Research is Changing and Adapting to the New Technology”. Current ARCS scholars were present to engage a mostly lay audience in the impact potential of their research. For a playful touch, guests could enter a “Talk to a Scholar Raffle” for a chance to win an Apple watch.
Almost 300 attendees enjoyed the evening of science combined with great food and wine. "Supernova is more than just an event; it's an evening of inspiration, innovation, and celebration," said event chair Rita Benton Milner. "We are paving the way for a brighter future through the advancement of science and a science-informed public.”
