Pittsburgh's Tech Transformation, the Site and Subject of May 2020 Retreat

Posted on Sunday, May 12, 2019

The city of Pittsburgh has been remade and reimagined.  Hence the theme of our next retreat: “Pittsburgh Alchemy – Steel to Digital Environments,” scheduled for May 13-17, 2020.  Elaine Davis, Carol Stockman, and Janie Wilson have been busy planning behind-the-scenes visits to parts of Pittsburgh not accessible by the average visitor.  We will be exposed to captivating venues and scenery, getting a feel for where workers would have plied their trades in the past and where today’s workforce is working its magic in technology, science, engineering and medicine.

Highlights of the weekend will include a driving tour of the city, ending at Carnegie Mellon University for a fun and interactive presentation entitled “The Chemistry of Taste”, and a visit to the Human Engineering Research Lab at the University of Pittsburgh.  The group will also visit the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.  There will be options to visit other parts of the Carnegie, including the Art Museum, or you may consider the Andy Warhol Museum, high tea at the William Penn Hotel, or other local activities.

On the final evening, we will have cocktails and dinner at the National Aviary.

Registration opens July 15, 2019, and more information regarding registration, full itinerary and cost will be made available soon.  There is room for only 53 participants, so watch your email and sign up quickly!

Thanks to Elaine, Janie and Carol for the diligent planning!
