Panel Discussion: Turning Research Into Real World Solutions
Breakthrough discoveries often begin with curiosity-driven research in university labs. But how do those ideas become technologies that improve lives? In this inspiring panel discussion, hear the innovation stories of Minnesota ARCS Scholars and faculty researchers from the University of Minnesota. They will share how their discoveries are moving beyond the lab to becoming real-world solutions, from new medical technologies to innovative companies. Learn how researchers who advance science, supported by organizations like the ARCS Foundation, create innovations that that can change lives. Moderator Paige Novak PhD –Head of Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering (CEGE). She is researching the design and implementation of biologically-based remediation systems using microorganisms to treat wastewater. The panel features the stories of University of Minnesota entrepreneurs like: Judee Sharon PhD ARCS Scholar in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Biophysics (BMBB) Co-founder of KuriBio, a startup with a nanotechnology platform that precisely delivers oncology and genetic therapies to minimize side effects to patients. Lizzy Crist PhD ARCS Scholar in Biomedical Engineering (BME) She is applying the 3D tissue engineering and microfluidic disease-modeling research she developed during her Ph.D. to her work at AIM Biotech, where she helps researchers and biopharma partners use organ-on-chip platforms to create more realistic human tissue models for drug discovery and translational research. Natasha Wright PhD Assistant Professor Mechanical Engineering, developing affordable home dialysis solutions for low-resource countries globally; Paul Dauenhauer, PhD Professor Chemical Engineering, co-founder of Carba, a company that uses technology to convert waste biomass into permanent biocarbon for carbon sequestration and industrial materials. The panelists represent a cross-section of disciplines that demonstrate how University of Minnesota research can evolve into products, companies, and solutions that improve human health and address US and global challenges. Brain Controlled Devices with ARCS Scholar Caden Hamrick
ARCS Scholar Caden Hamrick will give us a tour of his laboratory in the Craig H. Neilsen Rehab Hospital. He will be showing us a variety of brain controlled devices. Plan to meet by 11:45 so we can start the tour at noon. After the 30 minute tour we will eat at the cafeteria in the hospital and have an opportunity to socialize with ARCS Members and Scholars.

Palo Alto May 2026 National Board Meeting Registration
To all ARCS Members: REGISTRATION IS OPEN for the National Board Meeting May 14-16, 2026, in Palo Alto, California! Don't miss this chance to round out the year with your ARCS colleagues and lay the foundation for a stellar 2026-27 ARCS year of programs. Plan to arrive to the ARCS Foundation Board Meeting in Palo Alto, CA on Thursday, May 14. Concurrent committee meetings will likely take place that afternoon starting at 1 pm. After meetings, attendees will travel to the Menlo Country Club for a hosted Welcome Reception and Dinner, with shuttles provided to and from the The Graduate Hotel in Palo Alto. We will also honor the 2025 and 2026 ARCS Light award winners at this dinner. On Friday, May 15, participants will gather at the Stanford Faculty Club for a continental breakfast, and then participate in the ARCS National Board Meeting. After the meeting, attendees will hear from Ken Goodson, the VP Provost for Graduate Education & Postdoctoral Affairs with an update on Stanford’s focus. Afterward, attendees will enjoy a buffet lunch, hear from an ARCS Northern California Chapter Scholar and then take part in both an immersive tour of the Stanford Robotics Lab, and a guided walk through the Cantor Arts Center. The day will conclude with a dine around with fellow ARCS colleagues in easy walking distance from the hotel. Saturday, May 16, before you travel home, optional activities include a visit to the Gamble Garden and the Allied Arts Guild with lunch. Please take note of the schedule details and location below.
