ARCS Foundation Atlanta Awards $367,500 to Young Scientists Igniting Innovation in Georgia

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Atlanta, GA – The Atlanta Chapter of ARCS® Foundation will honor 49 outstanding young scientists with awards totaling $367,500 at its annual Scholars Awards Celebration on Wednesday, November 15th at Georgia Tech. The event will be from 4:00 to 5:30 PM in the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience.

ARCS Foundation Atlanta provides awards to outstanding students in STEM fields, science, engineering and medical research, at Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse College, and University of Georgia. This year’s ARCS Scholars reflect compelling initiatives that will impact the future of science, health, energy and environment.

A few of the 2023 ARCS scholar topics include; novel interactions of T and B cells in cancer immunotherapy, creating quantum chemistry methods to assist in developing renewable energy, bacterial antibiotic resistance, and water system development, treatment and quality as it affects health.

Since its founding in 1992, ARCS Foundation Atlanta has given more than $7 million in awards to graduate and undergraduate research. ARCS awards are particularly coveted as they offer unrestricted funds to support young scientists as they begin their career. ARCS scholars can use these funds to pay expenses not covered by their university, such as Research Conferences, research travel, or unexpected living expenses.

ARCS Foundation Atlanta President, Carolynn Cooper said, “We know these unrestricted awards are key to igniting innovation in Georgia.  ARCS Foundation Atlanta is proud to have provided meaningful support for 1127 individual scholars during the last 31 years. Many have gone on to make significant contributions in medicine, technology, biochemistry, engineering, environmental science, energy and public health.”

ARCS Atlanta Sponsors and Partners for 2023 include Joseph C. and Inez Crawford Burtchaell Foundation, Genuine Parts, Georgia-Pacific, Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation, Joachim Herz Stiftung, Northside Hospital, and Sartain Lanier Family Foundation. Additionally, nearly 50 local foundations and individuals participated this year to provide named awards for scholars.

ARCS Foundation, Inc. is a national organization dedicated to supporting the best and brightest graduate and undergraduate scholars. They provide financial awards in science, engineering and medical research. ARCS Scholars have gone on to positions of leadership and distinction across academia, industry, and government.  Nine out of 10 ARCS Scholars work in their sponsored fields - sharing knowledge, developing technologies, launching startup companies, and inspiring youth to pursue the challenge of study and careers in STEM fields.  Visit here for more information on ARCS Foundation Atlanta.
