October 21, 2025 at 12:00 PM Eastern Time

Assessing the Commercial Potential of Your Doctoral Research

Presented by Chris Klaus

Technology Visionary, Entrepreneur and Founder of Internet Security Systems

Please join us for a one-hour virtual session with Chris Klaus, a Georgia Tech alumnus, and founder and CTO of Internet Security Systems (ISS), one of the most significant stand-alone cybersecurity companies of the early 21st century. In 2006, the company was sold to IBM. Chris gave a gift to Georgia Tech to build the College of Computing’s new home, The Klaus Advanced Computing Building. Today, he is dedicated to empowering the next generation of scientific entrepreneurs.

In this program, Chris will share his personal journey from student innovator to tech entrepreneur. He will provide insights into what commercializing scientific research looks like in practice and offer a practical framework to help ARCS Scholars evaluate the commercial potential of doctoral research. Chris will suggest resources to facilitate this entrepreneurial journey.

The ARCS Scholar Enrichment Series is a national program that fosters the personal and professional development of ARCS Scholars beyond their academic achievements. By connecting ARCS Scholars with accomplished professionals, thought leaders, and fellow innovators, ARCS Foundation reinforces its commitment to advancing science in America by investing not only in discovery but also in the people who will drive it forward.
